So Sari!

OK, I do apologize for that terrrible pun. I only wore a sari once. It was to Dr. H's sister's wedding, back in May 1999. Another friend, Future Dr. S (yeah, I seem to have many friends of the medical persuasion, don't I?), took Dr. P and I home with her and her mom gussied us up in her finest saris. This was way before I was obsessed with India and all things Indian, but I loved it. I'm sure I looked like a big white goober (Future Dr. S's mom pinned the sari onto me so that it wouldn't fall off at any inopportune times), but I felt utterly glamorous. Clearly, that was my first clue that I needed to reclaim the lost Desi within me.

  1. I have to say that looks great on you. Blue is a good color for you. I would love to own one. They have always looked very comfortable.

  2. You looked great in that! I have two saris, and I really want a salwar kameez, plus the little shirt that goes under the sari.

Also wanted to add that wherever we've gone, hikes in Yosemite included, the elderly Indian woman are always DECKED out in nice saris. I'm sweatin' through my Monty Python shirt and they're trailing silk...

  3. Saris are so elegant. I tried wearing one and found it difficult, but I am just a big ol horsey gringa.

  4. My reflex caused me to salute - then I looked closer.

  5. I have always had a thing for saris too. They are so elegant and colorful and regal and I even like the style of shirt that is worn under them. They seem to flat everyone.
