"CSI: Miami:" Keeping It Logical

CSI: Miami is my favorite craptastic show with over-the-top bad acting by David Caruso, ludicrous plot resolutions that never live up to the first 47 minutes of the criminal investigation, and hot actors. Last season's production quality, with its "new fangled" flashy split screen action for no good reason, nearly drove me insane. I was seriously considering not tuning in again this year, even if it meant missing out on Caruso's infamous removal and replacement of sunglasses as a substitute for facial expression. (That never fails to amuse me.)

Hence it was with much excitement that I read in Entertainment Weekly that Rory Cochran, whose character Speedle was killed in 2004, is returning to the show as that character. Producers have verified that Speedle is indeed going to be back. This is no twin-of-Speedle type of bait and switch. How on earth a dead guy will join the CSI team is beyond me, but my friend Steph (who adores Rory) and I are bursting with anticipation.

And that, my friends, is the exact cheese I love about CSI: Miami. The show is like Humboldt Fog spread it thick on a cracker and I eat every damn crumb.

  1. I heart Rory! Maybe Speedle will get to interact with more porn-actress-with-a-heart-of-gold characters upon his return from the grave. How much do you want to bet that he hates Wolfe? I've missed his scathing tell it like it is comments.

  2. WTF?? Speedle's death was the very reason I stopped watching the show. The previews kept mentioning that one of the CSI Miami regulars was going to be bumped off. Not knowing who was leaving, I had no clue - until the following was said:

Speedle: This car is just a bad investment, just happy I have my bike.
Horatio: Someday you may need something with doors.
Speedle: Well, I got plenty of time for that.

Less than 30 seconds later, he's dead, of course. Sad, so sad... not so much the episode, but the writing. :)

  3. i remember law and order SVU had the blonde DA that was killed by the mafia or something, and then one day she showed up for a show. aparently she was really under witness protection and they had faked her death... maybe speedle is coming back like that??? or maybe it's just like all good daytime soaps and they really do come back from the dead.

  4. I have to admit that I just could not get into CSI Miami last season even though I had been looking forward to another season of bad acting.

  5. Having keenly observed and taken careful note of CSI plotlines, I believe Speedle will return as the corpse that he is (stay with me) -- in an effort to more fully highlight the talents of the autopsy room they will spend the whole next season dissecting Speedle because his rotting carcass holds vital clues to a long string of murders in the Miami area. There will be long montages featuring funky music, no dialogue and various actors fiddling with bits and pieces of Speedle and really cool looking machinery.
