Man, it is hard to not be working today. Nothing is going on.
The mail came and went. Husband received a magazine from his alma mater and one of those evil checks that credit cards insist on sending even though we don't want them, and it is easy to have them stolen out of the mail and cashed by frauds. (Does anyone go a day without receiving a credit card offer of some sort? The only days we don't receive something from those companies that would like me to live above my means are ones in which there is no mail delivery.)
The phone is silent. No one calling to get me to give to Al Franken's senate campaign, no credit card offers, and no job or school news. (Incidentally, a friend of mine was admitted to the nonfiction program at the New School yesterday. She's pretty damn talented and super nice, so I am really happy for her.) I even tried calling friends, but everyone is busy working or taking care of sick partners. (What is with this vile strain of flu that is striking good people around the nation?)
Even the email is slow today. Doesn't anyone want to send me a cute picture of his/her kids or pets? Share some gossip? Anything?
Do I have to dress like Bjork just to get some reactions! I thought her stork dress was cool...

hate those credit card generated "checks" .. with their intent to enslave unsuspecting customers. the whole credit industry has moved away from snakes in the grass to Godzilla in your mailbox.
ReplyDeleteThere's a way you can reduce/end credit card offers. I had gotten tons of them until I signed up onto the list. I think look at the credit bureaus service web sites - I think there's a link there.
ReplyDeleteI signed up for GreenDimes and managed to cut my junk mail significantly. However, I still noticed an American Express offer in yesterday's mail.
ReplyDeleteIt's slow around my office today, too. Lots of people traveling. It's making me want to boredom eat, which is very, very bad.
Credit card offers and people who want me to buy a new car now or trade in one I sold three years ago. I feel your junk mail pain!
ReplyDeleteI got those stupid check things today too! What are the odds?
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking the internets seem very quiet these days. It's quite strange. At least I have mounds of housework to keep me busy in the meantime.
ReplyDeleteI did do some laundry, but I couldn't finish it. Almost all the washers in the building's laundry room were dominated by other people's maids, and I didn't want to do battle with them.
ReplyDeleteNow with all these comments, though, I feel like a prom queen! No stork dress required...
We get lots of credit card offers - I wonder what their return is? How many people actually sign up? Given how much they must spend in printing and postage. It just doesn't seem like the return would be there...
ReplyDeleteI decided I wanted to go for PMP certification - and that's now keeping me hella busy (that's my California slang for ya. :) I think it went out in the early 90s. :))
My friend went to Mills College and came back saying hella this and hella that. Of course, that was in the 90s... Man, I'm getting old.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely get yourself on that "Do not solicit" list. My junk snail-mail was reduced by 2/3s within a month of my doing so.
ReplyDeleteBummer 'bout the laundry, though. I was hopin' for a pic of ya in the Stork dress!
;-)
