The victory of Ned Lamont over Joseph Lieberman, a three-term senator and former vice presidential candidate, was a vivid demonstration of how the Iraq war is buffeting American politics and of the deep hostility toward President Bush among Democrats. It also suggested there are stiff anti-status-quo winds blowing across the political landscape as the fall elections approach. What the fuck took so long? Well, let’s keep our fingers crossed that this really does portend for some slightly better times. (I say slightly better because it will take eons to undo the damage the Bush administration managed to cause in the last six years, with plenty of time to come to inflict even more.)

Oh no. I expected better than blind Lamont support from you! While I agree with the sentiment, Lamont (in my opinion) was the wrong choice for CT. Not that I agree with Lieberman on most issues but at least I know where he stands. Lamont is a one note guy and refuses to expand about his views on education, health care, taxes beyond the party line. Plus, I think he is too inexperienced. And, having a Senator named "Ned" could make CT the laughing stock on the USA.
ReplyDeleteWhile you make excellent points, particularly on the ridiculous name, I have been irked at Lieberman for too long. He is practically a puppet of the Bush administration (although to his credit, he did not vote for the Child Custody Protection Act, whereas Harry Reid, Robert Byrd, and Mary Landrieu did) at this point.
ReplyDeleteAnd Strom Thurmond seemed to do rather well in the Senate, despite a terrible name and being a vile racist and practically marrying his daughter, so maybe Ned will do OK.
